Welcome to Charlie's Shop And Cafe, a hidden gem nestled in the charming village of Colwinston, Cowbridge. This delightful cafe is located in a beautifully converted barn, where warm smiles and a peaceful ambiance welcome you as soon as you step inside. Whether you’re seeking a quiet morning coffee or a satisfying lunch, Charlie’s offers a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

One of the highlights of this cozy cafe is undoubtedly its menu, which, despite being succinct, is packed with quality offerings. Diners rave about the scrumptious bacon bloomers, featuring thick, juicy slices of bacon served on large, freshly baked bloomer bread. Picture indulging in this mouthwatering delight as the aroma of crispy bacon fills the air, perfectly paired with a steaming cup of coffee that warms your soul.

As you sip on your drink, the atmosphere envelops you—it's refreshingly quiet, full of relaxed conversation, without the interference of loud phone calls or clattering dishes. This peaceful setting makes it an ideal spot for a leisurely catch-up with friends or a moment of solitude with a book in hand. As Richard White noted in his review, Charlie's is “lovely, clean, and quiet,” provided a retreat where you can unwind and enjoy quality food.

Another glowing comment comes from Rachel Davies who emphasizes the selection of cakes available, making it a perfect stop for those with a sweet tooth. The cafe also doubles as a village shop stocked with essentials like fresh bread, milk, and butter, adding to its appeal as a community hub.

The warmth of Charlie, the owner, shines through each customer’s experience. As Jemima Rainey reflects, “Thank you for the lovely breakfast, sir Charlie.” His genuine hospitality makes every visit feel personal, fostering a warm community spirit that resonates with everyone who walks through the door.

If you're an outdoor enthusiast, you'll be pleased to know that Charlie's has become a favorite pit stop for local cycling clubs, especially on those rainy days when the log fire crackles invitingly in the background. Neil Lambden shares how he and his cycling buddies cherish their visits, turning Charlie's into a regular stop on their routes. This communal vibe creates a sense of belonging that resonates with both locals and visitors alike.

So, if you find yourself in Cowbridge, don’t miss the chance to experience the charm of Charlie's Shop And Cafe. With friendly service, delightful food, and a tranquil atmosphere, it's a place that nurtures both the palate and the spirit.

A lovely little cafe in the village of Colwinston. With a small village shop (with essentials like butter, fresh bread, milk, etc) and some other bits. In the cafe they have fantastic bacon bloomers, two very thick slices of bacon on a large delicious bloomer. The cafe has a good selection of cakes too. Very clean place and staff are very accommodating and friendly.

Visited on a grey day with other members of Spokes cycling club. A little gem of a place. Even cosier when the log fire was burning allowing us to dry out for a while. Well worth visiting and now a regular on our calendar

What a find! We enjoyed a lovely cooked brekkie while the owner chatted with us. The cafe is a converted barn that has been in the family for generations (along with the surrounding farm land). If you want to know anything about the local area and history, you can find out about it here while you enjoy a gorgeous (and generous) grilled meal.

What a great little cafe tucked away in the Vale of Glamorgan offering great bacon rolls and hot chocolate. Very friendly and warm welcome from the owners. A perfect bike stop when on a bike ride in the eastern Vale.

Great setup and use of the space. Welcoming atmosphere! Coffee was lovely and not overpriced! Car park is small but there is a small area to park outside the cafe as well, or park in the village and walk up if the weather is nice! Dog friendly! The owner, Rob, was very welcoming, chatty, and friendly! He even offered to bring us chairs and a table outside to sit at. He was also integral in helping my mum connect to long-lost friends in the area, we had arrived that day on a bit of a hunting mission armed with bits of information and happened by circumstance to come across the man who could point us in the right direction as the family we were looking for were his neighbours.... it's a small world at times!! We will be forever grateful for Robs help and the time he took to share stories on a quiet morning at his cafe.
